No success ended yesterday (29.5.2025) the first auction to reach the natural gas From Greece to Ukraine through the vertical corridor.
It is the chain of gas pipelines and infrastructure starting with the LNG terminals in Greece and extends to Moldova and Ukraine. In particular, the second has a great need to fill its warehouses in time for the following winter.
Earlier this week, the agreement was completed between the managers of the countries involved, namely DESFA and GASTRADE from Greece, Bulgartransgaz and ICGB from Bulgaria, Transgaz from Romania, FGSZ from Hungary, Eustream from Slovakia, VMTG from Moldova and GTSou.
However, the first auction did not lead to a positive result, as the market remained apathetic and did not commit quantities through pipelines.
According to Argus, the final price of the product offered at the auction was at € 7.98 for each gas megawatt. This price includes all costs, from the gasification of LNG to Greece to its arrival at Ukrainian installations.
Merchants placed on the subject stressed that time was too short to prepare, and they were also concerned with regulatory issues as to whether the whole idea is compatible with European regulations.
At the same time, the terms of participation were quite restrictive, as interested parties had to be licensed in all five countries from which the gas would pass.
Now, the competent authorities in Bulgaria intend to run a second auction soon, possibly correcting certain things in relation to the first.
