For the seventh consecutive year, the European Commission delegation (ed. Commission) in Greece with its own pavilion (No. 10) at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition (TIF) with a plethora of events and information actions.
This year’s theme of the presence of the Commission’s TIF delegation is the sustainable tourism in the European Union and the importance of cooperating European, national and local bodies for the development of a tourist model that respects the environment, cultural heritage and local communities.
The Central Event of the Greek Representation of the Commission will have the theme: “Sustainable Tourism in the European Union” (Saturday 6 September, 13:00 – 15:00, Nikolaos Germanos Building, Amphitheater – Room A
The event will include two themes:
1. European, national and local strategies for sustainable tourism: European Commissioner, Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, will talk to representatives of the Greek Government and Local Government about the designation of strategies promoting sustainability in tourism at all levels of governance. Actions and initiatives will be presented that combine tourism development with environmental protection and the strengthening of local communities.

2. The contribution of social partners to a sustainable tourism: Discussion on the role of businesses, tourism professionals and other social partners in shaping a sustainable tourist model. The dialogue between stakeholders will highlight the potential of synergies and the need to adopt responsible and resilient practices in the tourism industry.

Event: “Local Government and its contribution to sustainable tourism”
Sunday 7 September 2024, 11: 30-13: 00, Nikolaos Germanos building, Hall B
The event will be predicted by the head of the European Commission delegation in Greece, Mr Niovi Rigu. The European Commissioner for Sustainable Transfers and Tourism, Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas and the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia will address the greeting, Mr. Athinas Athanasiadou-Aidona.
