The woman who was poisoned after eating wild mushrooms







Accompanied by the Flying Doctors of the EKAV Air Transport, the two patients who suffered acute liver failure due to the consumption of poisonous mushrooms.

The couple, the man aged 65 and the woman aged 55, from Agios Athanasios Pellas, who had been hospitalized for the last few hours at the AHEPA hospital in Thessaloniki, having been transferred from the Edessa hospital after the problems that the poisoned mushrooms created for themarrived at the “Macedonia” airport around 7 pm and was received by the team of EKAV flying doctors.

Via Athens, the couple then traveled to Italy, to undergo an emergency and life-saving liver transplant in a hospital in Rome and a hospital in Pisa.

Earlier, the Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Themistokleous, in a post on social media, announced the immediate mobilization of the Transplant Organization and other health services in order to find the liver transplants and deliver the two patients.

“The National Transplantation Organization in collaboration with the EKAV air transport system organized, within a few hours, the emergency transport of two of our fellow citizens who were poisoned by mushrooms, ensuring the fastest access to a liver transplant.

With our coordinated actions, our fellow citizens were accepted in the Transplantation Centers of Rome and Pisa. I sincerely thank all the professionals who contributed to the immediate mobilization and coordination of this critical mission.”
