On a high note it was completed at Parliament the discussion and passing of the bill on public broadcasting, with the governing majority being isolated during the vote, but also exchanging heavy words with the Freedom of Navigation side. The draft law, which aims to modernize it ERT and harmonization with the European Regulation on media freedom (European Media Freedom Act), was approved on principle solely by its votes New Republicas all opposition parties voted against it.
The rejection of the SYRIZA amendment
During the proceedings, the overdue amendment tabled by SYRIZA was tabled. The proposal concerned the recognition of prior service in the private sector for ERT employees, mainly those from NERIT and the Mutual Aid Fund.
The Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Pavlos Marinakisclarified that the government does not reject the request on principle, as it was included in the consultation. However, he explained that the amendment cannot be accepted at this stage due to comments from co-competent ministries. He promised, however, that the issue will be examined in cooperation with the workers and will be returned for voting in the next legislation.
“Soap opera” and heavy accusations about Tempi
The thermometer in the room rose vertically when Pavlos Marinakis responded to her speech Zois Konstantopoulou. The president of Plefsis Eleftherias referred extensively to Diamantis Karanastasis and the reasons that, as she claimed, led him to resign from the parliamentary position.
The government spokesman’s response was mocking, characterizing her words as material for a “soap opera” entitled “Tears for Diamond”. Mr. Marinakis emphasized that there is no mood to criticize the artist’s face, however he accused Ms. Konstantopoulou of trying to create impressions without substantial political opposition.
Afterwards, the tone became particularly harsh, with the deputy minister accusing the head of Freedom of Navigation of political exploitation of the tragedy of Tempo. He accused her of climbing “on the backs of the dead” in polls, recalling incidents where, according to him, he insulted the memory of the dead train driver for vote-seeking reasons, ignoring the pain of the relatives. “You in this Hall cannot give moral lessons to anyone,” he said characteristically.
The controversy over appointees and lists
The confrontation also extended to the issue of parliamentary status. Responding to Zoe Konstantopoulou’s comments about an “appointed minister”, Pavlos Marinakis countered that, although he is currently non-parliamentary, he respects the procedures and the judgment of the people.
In fact, he went on the counter-attack citing complaints from former executives of Plevsis Eleftherias. He specifically referred to Ms. Dalla’s statements (dated 10/30/2025), who denounced that Zoe Konstantopoulou “caratomized” women who had been elected first in their districts. The Deputy Minister called on Ms. Konstantopoulou to apologize for her practices within her party and for the complaints about bullyingnoting that “Ms. Dalla is here and stalking you.”
