Today’s plenary session is expected to be held in a climate of extreme intensity and severe confrontation to discuss the three proposals Pre -Trial Committee on the Tempe case.
The marathon process is done in the unprecedented political environment formed by the Parliament of 297 MPs and the new motley pole that constitute Konstantopoulou – Velopoulos – Natsios – Kasselakis.
The four presidents of the Freedom, Greek Solution, Victory and Democracy Movement set aside their clear ideological disputes and joined on a common front to attribute heavy offenses and even attribute penalties even for ultimate betrayal. The protagonists of the “alliance of 4” are also united by the almost identical theories that have cultivated for the last 2 years for fireplace, wooden, tulle to hide dead and disappearance of wagon. On the other hand, the Maximus Palace estimates that the latest developments in the Tempe case with the Karoni finding and the videos of the fatal trading train put a definitive end to the theories of transferring illegal flammable material and exposes those who traveled them. In this light government officials estimate that the content and offenses of the “4” proposal also removes the latest fig leaf from all those who “attempted to build a political career on the tragedy”. Given that the proposal attributes “ultimate betrayal” to the prime minister, it is quite possible that Kyriakos Mitsotakis is likely to be intervened today.
At 3 in the morning the result
However, according to planning the debate will begin at 9am with an ambitious goal of completing it by 9pm to follow the secret ballot. It is recalled that the 3 proposals from ND, PASOK and alliance of the “4” concern a total of 14 politicians and 10 offenses.
The majority’s proposal concerns exclusively K. Karamanlis PASOK’s text calls for a reference to a pre -trial investigation by K. Karamanlis, Chr. Spirtz and for 6 other deputy ministers from the period 2016-2023 while the “4” proposal is seeking control for the prime minister and 10 more politicians. According to the parliamentary “choreography” for the secret ballot, the threshold of which is kept at 151 despite the fact that parliament now operates with 297 members, there will be 14 ballots as well as the persons for whom a pre -trial investigation is requested. Each MP will take 14 ballots corresponding to separate faces and will be directed to a different ballot box. For this reason, the competent departments of Parliament have printed a total of more than 12,000 ballots. For example, the ballot box with the number “1” will only be voted for former Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Costas Ah. Karamanlis. Members will choose the ballot paper with the number “1” the proposal of ND, PASOK, the Alliance of “4” – or 3 – depending on which they consider to include the best rationale and offenses. According to the Bureau estimates, the voting process will take about two and a half hours and about two hours the count. Since the process runs smoothly, the final results of the vote are expected to be announced by 2 in the morning.
What will the parties vote
Voting to set up pre -trial proceedings is a secret process, but the 297 MPs will come to the 14 ballots given a “party line”. ND, PASOK and MPs of “4” are expected to vote only the proposals made by their parties.
MPs of SYRIZA, the new left and probably the KKE will be abstaining from the vote. Of the 19 independent Nikos Papadopoulos and Areti Papaioannou have expressed in favor of the “4” proposal.
Intervention by Karamanlis
According to the correlation of forces at the end of the process, only the ND proposal by 154 members of the government majority (K. Karamanlis is not involved in his reference) is expected to be approved. It is recalled that the text of “Blue” KO proposes the referral of former Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Costas Ah. Karamanlis for the offense of breach of duty. Mr. Karamanlis is also the central face of the process as it is included in all 3 proposals. The former minister appears to be determined to post before the national delegation, to support his innocence but to call for his referral to the Judicial Council as the only competent authority to control and judge his handling. For this reason, and for the lifting of any challenge that cultivated rumors of leaks by the “blue” KO, he will ask his party members to vote in favor of the majority proposal. At the same time, Mr Karamanlis will denounce the opposition for vulgar exploitation of the tragedy with “lies and diabolies”, however completely separated by the relatives of the victims. He is also expected to present documents and decisions that substantiate his allegations of the situation he received and the initiatives he himself took on the safety of the railways.
