During the first quarter of the year, Tesla delivered 336,681 vehicles to their new owners, compared to 386,810 last year, in the corresponding period. Wedbush analysts expected that sales would range from around 355 – 360,000, and at the beginning of the year the forecasts were even better, reaching 400,000 vehicles. Deutsche Bank analysts initially estimated that sales would reach 378,000 vehicles but then reviewed their estimates at 340 – 350,000, at the lowest level from the third quarter of 2022.
Around 16.35 today (2.4.2025) Tesla’s share fell 6.17% to the New York Stock Exchange to $ 251.91. He then recovered, covering part of the losses and around 15.00 had reached $ 261.84 (-2.47%). The company has been declining in recent weeks, each time sales (which is lower than expected) are announced in various parts of the world.
The automotive industry does not announce its sales by geographical area, but local authorities show that in some countries, especially in Western Europe, they are plunged. Only for March, sales were 36.8% lower in France and 63.9% in Sweden. In Denmark they fell almost half (-56%) in the first quarter of the year.
Tesla also faces difficulties in China, a critical market for the company. Its most important competitor, Chinese byd, sold 1.76 million electric vehicles in 2024 (+12% annually) worldwide, while Tesla sold 1.79 million, recording a drop in sales by 1%.
Regarding the production of Tesla, the comparison is not favorable: only 362,615 vehicles came out of the company’s factories between January – March 2025, compared to 43,371 in the first quarter of 2024.
