An incredible clash of two of trains noted in Slovakia on Sunday night (09.11.2025), according to the police.
The collision occurred between trains Tatran 620, which was scheduled to arrive in Bratislava at 19:33, and Rex 1814, which arrived in Nitra at 19:36 in Slovakia.
Local media reported that several people were injured due to the fierce head-on collision. The collision took place near Pezinok, with passengers reporting that loud noises were heard before the collision which caused them concern.
Early reports from local media, including Denník N and TA3 News, indicate that the trains involved were Tatran 620 and REx 1814, both passenger routes operating on the regional line.
While the full extent of the damage remains unknown, witnesses described “a loud crash” and visible sparks from the overhead wires shortly after the crash. Some passengers reportedly managed to get off the trains before emergency crews arrived.
One of them said: “We are somewhere near Pezinok. It was a terrible blow. They have already called any doctor to go to the front of the train,” reports local media aktuality.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether there are any deaths or serious injuries, although hospitals in the Bratislava region are said to have been put on alert. A police spokesman said more information would be released “when the situation permits,” citing ongoing rescue and recovery operations at the crash site.
The cause of the collision has yet to be officially announced, but initial reports indicate that both trains were traveling on adjacent lines that are heavily used during peak hours.
The incident occurred on a section where the double line narrows to a single line before entering a tunnel, and investigators cited possible human error and signaling errors.
Rail disruptions are expected as the investigation begins
Slovakia’s Ministry of Transport and Construction has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, with initial speculation pointing to a possible signal failure or communication error along the route.
Train services between Bratislava and Trnava have been severely disrupted, with passengers advised to use alternative transport.
Prime Minister Robert Fitzo is expected to be briefed on the situation late Sunday night as authorities focus on stabilizing the crash site and accounting for all passengers. The rail accident investigation committee will arrive at dawn to begin a technical assessment.
The collision occurred less than a month after the October 13, 2025 rail accident near Jablonov nad Turnou in eastern Slovakia, where two passenger trains collided head-on, injuring at least 66 people.
