The President of the Commission spoke today about the deadly blows that Russia launched in Kiev that resulted in 18 people losing their lives today (28.08.2025) Ursula von der Layenwith the US president, Donald Trump.
As Ursula von der Liean said in a post on social media, Russia’s mass missile attack with Kiev was the main issue of telephone communication with Donald Trump.
She added that she then contacted Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski.
“I just talked to President Zelenski and then with President Donald Trump, after the mass attack on Kiev that also hit the EU offices. Putin must come to the negotiating table,” the European Commission President said initially.

She then added: “We need to ensure a fair and constant peace for Ukraine, with stable and reliable security guarantees that will turn the country into an inaccessible defensive force. Europe will fully play its role. Our defensive Safe tool, for example, will be important for strengthening the brave Ukrainian armed forces. “
