Tax Statements 2025: The two changes that have changed their submission process

Two major changes are running this year in the submission process declaration to tax office.

The first concerns the automatic filing of the tax office for employees and retirees who have a single source of income. For those who were called upon to go through the process of submitting – usually already known – every year, things change spectacularly. Now, their statement will be automatically cleared by AADE, unless they choose to make modifications or changes.

The second section concerns what is happening in the background. Now all public bodies have the obligation to send to AADE, within strict timeframe, the payment and booking details for each taxpayer. And if they don’t? The law provides for sanctions and fines for natural persons responsible for the delay.

At the same time, incentives are established for the timely submission of statements, while clearly defined – and mainly with stability – the dates of the start and expiry of each tax year. The taxpayer will no longer have to wait until the last minute or watch the news to see when the system opens.

The timetable is clear. For example, for the tax year 2025, statements will begin to be submitted on March 16, 2026. As far as now, everyone knows when and how.

This new reality, according to market players and management executives, comes to answer a timeless need for citizens: less hassle, more simplicity, lower costs.

And as they all show, perhaps for the first time, the issue of tax returns-this once favorite topic of discussion in the media-will slowly start to go through.

Let’s look at the picture until last Friday:

From 1,314,253 statements made by April 10:

  • 375,088 statements (28.54%) are debit, with the average tax that taxpayers pay € 1,381.
  • 318.838 statements (24.26%) are credit, with the average refund amount of 339 euros. They have already received the amount of the projected refund of 248,747 taxpayers with the total amount of the refund amounting to 248.8 million.
  • 620.327 statements (47.2%) are zero, that is, no tax liability arises.

Overall, about 20.5% of the total statements expected have already been submitted, with 71% not burdened with additional taxes. This is either due to the fact that they are zero or because they are credit, consequently a refund. This element proves that the majority of taxpayers will not undergo a financial burden on the annual tax process.

This year’s filing process brings significant changes and facilities for taxpayers:

1. Automatic statements: Over 1.5 million employees and retirees will see their tax return pre -filled and will be finalized automatically on April 25, 2025, unless modifications are required (until July 15, 2025).

2. Discounts and discounts: Tax can be paid in 8 installments or one -off with discounts: 4% to 30 April 2025, 3% to 15 June 2025, and 2% to 15 July 2025.

4. Records for real estate: Owners with gaps or short -term leased real estate are entitled to exemptions for 2022 and 2023.

6. Declaration statements: Heirs submit digital statements of deceased until December 31, 2025.

7. Taxpayer updates: Taxpayers who have submitted or will automatically submit the statement will receive updates by e-mail and Myaade for any changes.

8. Express Tax Returns: Tax refunds are made immediately for those who have no debts and are automatically offset by pending debts for others.
