The President of the Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas, By completing his visit to Cyprus, He met with DISY President Annita Dimitriou, GG by AKEL Stefanos Stefanou, DIKO President Nikola Papadopoulos, EDEK Vice President Maria Vassiliadou, DIPA President Mario Karogian and the President of the Ecologists Movement Stavros Papadouris.
Shortly before his departure from Cyprus, Mr. Tasoulas said:
“My official first visit to Cyprus was completed today. With great emotion and honor I found a dense three days here. I met with the leadership of the Cypriot people, with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Annita Dimitriou. I had the opportunity and honor to speak to the House of Representatives of Cyprus. I met with representatives of all parties, with committees of missing, refugees, occupied areas. And I wanted with my presence here – which is not ceremonial, it is symbolic and meaningful – to emphasize that Greece is always inextricably tied to the goals of the Cypriot government, he is a supporter of the Cyprus struggle in trying to avoid and refusing the events.
We are 65 years after Cyprus’s independence and 51 years after the illegal Turkish invasion and military occupation of about 40% of Cyprus. And we are fighting for a reunification of Cyprus based on the European acquis, on the basis of a state within the European Union for all the inhabitants of Cyprus, which will have an international personality, a nationality, a sovereignty.
All this effort, which has revived lately after seven years of immobility, gives us optimism. But the greater optimism gives us the fact that Greece and Cyprus, as I said at the beginning, united and believing in the final justification, we continue this struggle. Cyprus, the Cypriot people, are entitled to hope that this struggle is not in vain. In the end it will be justified.
And I feel proud and I feel honored to have the opportunity as President of the Hellenic Republic in this first official visit here to emphasize exactly these things to all friends, to all the partners, to all I met with.
Thank you very much to all the Cypriot officials, from the President of Cyprus, from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, by the Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus, His Beatitude George for the hospitality and excellent cooperation we had.
The final conclusion is that Greece and Cyprus together will proceed to the final justification. “
Meetings had been preceded by the members of the Committees of Occupied Municipalities and Communities, the representatives of the Cyprus Association of Refugees and the Cyprus Organization Historical Memory Council EOKA.
In the morning Mr. Tasoulas visited and paid tribute to the military Macedonian Cemetery.
