Taliban: Replace Ministry of “Women’s Affairs” with Ministry of “Promotion of Virtue”

Yesterday Thursday 16/9 around the world made the news that the Taliban prevented his wives Afghanistan to enter the Ministry of Women’s Affairs!

In fact, employees at the ministry said they had been trying to get to work for several weeks but were told to return home. Finally, the gates of the building were sealed yesterday.

The question that arose was to be answered today, as it seems that the Taliban – in defiance of those who expected fanatical Islamists to have poured “water on their wine” over the years – abolished the “annoying” Ministry of Women’s Affairs and replaced it with “Police of morals”, known for its fundamentalist positions during the first Islamist rule, 20 years ago.

Workers replaced the signs in the building of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs with others that read “Ministries of Prayer and Guidance and Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Corruption.”

Many messages were posted on social networking sites showing female employees protesting outside the building because they lost their jobs.

“Nobody listens to our women,” one woman wrote on Twitter. “What can we expect from these beasts?” another replied.

Representatives of the Taliban did not respond to a request for comment.

Although they insisted on governing more moderately than in 1996-2001, the Taliban did not allow most women to return to work. They also introduced dress code for female students.

No woman is on the interim cabinet announced two weeks ago.

In the period 1996-2001 women were excluded from public life. They could not leave their home unless accompanied by a male relative.

Members of the Ministry of Virtue Promotion and Prevention of Corruption often flogged women if they walked around alone. Their mission was also to ensure that everyone strictly adhered to the rules set by the Taliban, such as the obligatory participation in prayer and the prohibition of men shaving.
