“The New Democracy Staff is not only inadequate in protecting digital infrastructure, but dangerously indifferent”
The extensive leak of sensitive personal data – VAT, AMKA, IBAN – is mentioned in a statement by the competent SYRIZA -PS Digital Policy Division, Popi Tsapanidou.
He notes that the “disclosure of the leakage of the data of millions of citizens from cyberattack to EETAA, confirms in the most worrying way what we have long denounced: the New Democracy Staff is not only inadequate in protecting digital infrastructure, but dangerously indifferent”.
He recalls that “from the first time EETAA announced the collapse of its information systems, we have submitted a question to Parliament asking full information and guarantees for the protection of personal data. On April 1, we reinstated publicly, demanding clear answers from the government to the extent of the leak, the responsibilities that arise, and the immediate measures it intends to take to protect citizens. “
He accuses the government of “advertising a” digital transformation “limited to fancy apps and communication fireworks, reality is very different: citizens’ security is at constant danger and their dignity becomes a victim of government inactivity.”
In closing, he emphasizes: “Protection of personal data is not a luxury, nor can it be considered a side loss of digital transition. It is a fundamental democratic right and a constitutional obligation of the state to ensure it. SYRIZA – MS is not going to let this serious issue be buried. We will continue to exercise responsible, documented and institutional armor control. We are claiming a truly safe, transparent and democratic digital state, with citizens at the center. “
