SYRIZA: Inclusion in the sensitive area of education remains an empty letter

Exclusion of a student with autism from carrying the Greek flag in the parade

“The exclusion of a student with autism from the honor of carrying the Greek flag in tomorrow’s student parade, by modifying the result of the lottery – as revealed by ESAMEA – is proof that inclusion in the sensitive area of education remains an empty letter”, underlines in a statement the SYRIZA-PS.

“Such “isolated incidents” have their basis in the racist ideology of ableism and the hiding of disability, the reproduction of stigma,” he comments, warning that “if this exclusion is not lifted immediately, the leadership of the Ministry of Education will have confirmed that it has no sensitivity to ensure that the school is inclusive.”

“Exactly as the Mitsotakis government proves every day, with the conscious abandonment of special education, parallel support, public school in general, punitive evaluations with political criteria instead of lifelong training for teachers and instead of safeguarding children’s rights, with the absence of psychologists and social workers from schools and with so many incidents of discrimination that see the light of day every day publicity”, he emphasizes and concludes:

“In a modern state children at school are taught acceptance and inclusion, equal participation in learning and activities is ensured, the rights of all children are respected. Until we achieve it, we continue the fight together with the disability movement.”
