Since the beginning of the week, the city of Geneva in Switzerland has been facing high ozone concentrations – a dangerous gas that can cause respiratory problems, headaches or asthma attacks, according to the World Health Organization. Pollution measurements exceeded the security threshold of 180 micrograms per cubic meter within 24 hours.
Yesterday, the temperature reached 37 ° C, which led the authorities to issue heat warnings for the western and southern parts of the country.
According to the Canton Environment Office, the combination of high temperatures and weak winds does not allow pollutants to be dispersed, exacerbating the situation.
Restrictions on vehicles traffic
To reduce nitrogen oxide, the main responsible for this pollution, authorities encourage the use of public transport and limit access to the city center exclusively to low -emission vehicles, from 6:00 in the morning to 22:00 in the evening.
Throughout the alarm, no ticket will be required and ticket checks will remain in suspension.
