For breach of airspace by Russia
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Estonia, On behalf of 40 countries and the European Union, including Greece and Cyprus, denounced the breach of Estonia’s airspace by three armed Russian MIG-31 on September 19, 2025.
The aircraft, he said, remained in the NATO airspace, penetrated about 100 kilometers into Estonian territory and reached a breath away from Tallinn. It was the fourth breach of Estonian airspace from Russia throughout the year.
The statement emphasized that this action concerns not only Estonia, but the international community as a whole, as it is part of a wider motif of Russian challenges against neighboring countries, as recent violations of Poland and Romania have shown, along with the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
The countries that signed the statement described Moscow’s move “dangerous escalation”, a violation of international law and “offensive” towards international efforts to end war and restoration of peace. They also welcomed the immediate response of South Korea, chairing of SA, to Estonia’s request for an urgent meeting.
In closing, they called on Russia to end the war against Ukraine immediately, to stop any challenge against its neighbors, and to respect the fundamental principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and peaceful dispute resolution, noting that it is particularly concerned when they are particularly concerned.
