With summer approaching and tourism activity raising speed, the control mechanisms of the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) are put on a full alert.
At the center is an extensive business plan, which provides for more than 40,000 controls in tourist areas, islands and areas of high economic activity. The primary objective of AADE is to tackle tax evasion but also to identify seasonal businesses that appear for a few months and disappear without paying the corresponding taxes.
The operational plan, which is gradually activated by the end of May, develops on a daily basis, with checks that will take place throughout the week, morning, afternoon and evening, and even on holidays.
Live coordination and digital technology
The “heart” of the business will hit the AADE Business Room, where the central coordination will be done in real time. The audit groups will transmit images and details from the checkpoints – photos, videos, on -the -spot references – enhancing the immediate detection of irregularities.
In the most complex missions, drones will be recruited that will monitor businesses before the audit raid. Aerial monitoring is expected to significantly enhance the targeted approach to controls, especially in inaccessible or busy areas where the “image” of the space plays a crucial role in the final evaluation.
At the same time, special emphasis is placed on the use of the control -control application, which has been installed on tablets carrying the auditors with them. Through this application, taxpayers have direct access to the tax profile of each business, with real -time crossing with the declared income, VAT statements and other information kept in the AADE electronic files. The check is completed by issuing and on -site notification of note to the controller.
Secret checks and “tourists – taxpayers”
The plan also provides for a secret identity checks. Tax -disguised tourists will visit catering stores, rooms to let, beach bars and all kinds of seasonal businesses to find out if legally issued. This practice has proven to be particularly effective in previous years, mainly in tourist destinations with increased seasonality.
Enhancement of DOUs and geographical distribution of checks
To better meet the needs, AADE has reinforced critical DOJ. In tourist areas for the months of July, August and September. These include DOY. Mykonos, Thira, Rhodes, Kos, Corfu, Chania, Zakynthos, Paros, Naxos, Heraklion, Syros, as well as others in mainland and island areas with increased interest.
Sweeping checks and sanctions
Audit authorities will consider, among other things:
- The issuance of evidence and compliance with VAT obligations
- Adherence to tax books
- The tax behavior of each professional based on past
- Possible signs of ‘virtual’ business only for the season
When violations are found, immediate suspension measures are activated:
- 48 hours closure, for non -issuance of more than 10 receipts or transactions with no proof of more than 500 euros
- 96 hours in case of repetitive infringements in the same or next year
- 10 days for multiple relapses within two tax years
- An additional 10 days for a sealed shop breach
AADE seeks to pass a clear message that tax compliance is not only a matter of legality, but also the foundation for the fair functioning of the market, especially in times of strong economic activity. Tourism businesses are called upon to operate with transparency and consistency, not only against the state but also against healthy competition.
