Successive earthquakes in Euboea: Tomorrow’s schools in Mantoudi – what Lekkas and Karastathis say

Seismologists are reassuring in terms of Landless vibrations marked in the last 24 hours in Evia.

The two largest earthquakes 4.1 and 4.4 Richter caused serious damage to several buildings.

By the decision of the Mayor of Mantoudi -Limni Agia Anna, the schools of all levels of the Municipality will remain closed Monday for control by a DAFK step.

However, so far scientists are reassuring, as it is an area that does not have a large seismic potential and usually gives minor vibrations.

What does Lekkas say about earthquakes in Evia

Professor and President of OASP Efthymios Lekkas referred to the two earthquakes, size of 4.1 and 4.4 Richter, stressing that “they were sensible to Attica”, and so far little damage has been recorded.

“In this area, based on the seismic history, seismic sequences appear 2-3 days, but do not evolve into high sizes. The area does not give major earthquakes, but it has the habit of insisting, “he told Eviaonline.

Euboea: An earthquake of 4.4 Richter in Mantoudi – felt and in Athens

In addition, as he pointed out, 5-6 smaller aftershocks have occurred after the 4.4-magnitude earthquake, which confirms the usual local seismic behavior.

Mr Lekkas said there is no reason – for the time being – to visit the area, while calling on citizens to remain calm and follow the guidelines of local authorities and civil protection.

In the same zone as the earthquake given 5.1 Richter in November 2023

At the same time, the Director of the Geodynamic Institute, Mr. Vassilis Karastathis, told ERTNEWS that these earthquakes were held in the same zone where in November 2023 there was a maximum vibration of 5.1 on the Richter scale.

The new vibrations were made in a part of this zone, which was still “whispered” as he described it.

It is clarified that these are not aftershocks, but earthquakes related to activity at the time.

Closed schools in Prokopi and clay

Meanwhile, by decision of the Mayor of Mantoudi -Limni Agia Anna, schools of all levels of the Municipality will remain closed tomorrow for a DEVK step closed.

The Mayor of Mantoudi – Lake – Agia Anna, George Tsapourniotis, said: “The earthquake that occurred at night with a centered between Prokopios and Pelion and the second that followed shortly before the same spot caused damage to buildings. The inhabitants of Prokopios, as well as the surrounding villages, to maintain their temper. I have already contacted the responsible Minister Mr. Katsafados to send a DAFK step tomorrow and to control the buildings. Schools in Prokopi and Pelion, until the check is completed, will remain closed. “

Finally, it should be noted that cracks were also stacked at the Museum of St. John the Russian.
