Stournaras: The four challenges facing manufacturing in Greece

In four challenges faced by Greek manufacturing was mentioned by Giannis Stournarasfrom the event stage of MIET -IOBE – Hellenic Production.

Giannis Stournaras, while admitting the progress made by Greek manufacturing, emphasized that we are still lagging behind the EU due to these challenges.

There is a large production gap between us and Europe, which requires “bridging” between manufacturing and other productive sectors.

In this context, and amid international volatility, according to the governor of the Bank of Greece, the country faces four challenges:

  • Green transition: He emphasized the need to modernize structures and processes so that manufacturing can adapt to the new environment of rules and requirements.
  • Energy: Greece still has a high energy dependence on imported fossil fuels and high energy costs that are gnawing at Greek competitiveness.
  • Digital transformation: A shift to innovation and a high-skill workforce is needed which we are lagging behind.
  • Financing: In Greece, difficult access to funds for investments is recorded, making it necessary to make better use of the RRF/ESPA, the tools of the EBA.
