In his post, the Stefanos Kasselakisargued that the revelation made by Nikos Panagiotopoulos in the Kontra news release “leaves no room for doubt” about the knowledge of the risk of railways.
In particular, Mr. Kasselakis said that on September 21, 2021, the Director General of Transport had sent a service document to the then Minister of Transport, Costas Ah. Karamanlis. According to him, this document clearly stated that “the lack of adequate staff results in the unsafe and proper operation of the rail network”, in the aftermath of the Tempe tragedy.
The president of the Democracy Movement stressed that this means, more simply, that the ministry – and the minister himself – had been notified that the rail network was not safe. He even wondered what the ministry was doing then, responding that there was nothing “anything at all” and the network was allowed to operate under these conditions, with “tragic results”.
Mr. Kasselakis accused Kostas Ah. Karamanlis that he was fully aware of the danger and chose to be indifferent. He argued that “this is precisely the definition of possible deception: when you know the danger and indifferent.”
Concluding his post, he wondered if one now doubts that the possible deception is being set up for the serious crimes that are burdened by the former minister in the indictment. He also asked what else the parties expect to sign the indictments that his party has testified and what they are afraid of. He concluded by saying that “the concealment is over.”
