They concern 33 interventions in 21 island regional units
A series of approvals for important water management projects for island municipalities in the country, announced by Deputy Minister of Maritime and Island Policy Stefanos Gikas, in the framework of the Special Action Plan for water scarcityimplemented by the Ministry of Maritime and Island Policy, and accepting the relevant recommendation of the General Secretariat for the Aegean & Island Policy (GAINP), with the aim of addressing the difficulties that have arisen and to reduce the consequences of water supplements and economies.
More specifically, the set of these decisions relate to 33 interventions in 21 island regional units, while the specialization of additional projects in islands with identified and recorded needs, specifically in the islands: Gavdos, Crete, Oinousses, Patmos, Patmos, Patmos Schinoussa, Kythnos, Astypalaia, Naxos, Agios Efstratios, Lesvos, Lipsi and Tinos.
The above funding comes following targeted interventions issued in 2024 and concerning an additional 13 islands, with corresponding lashydria issues.
According to the announcement, the Ministry of Maritime and Island Policy, in close cooperation and in addition to the General Secretariat for the Environment and Water of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, proceeds methodically to meet the needs of local communities, satisfying the requests of local government and Its effects are existing and more permanent.

That is why our Ministry’s special action plan is moving in the direction of creating and implementing a national planning of the appreciation, utilization and management of water resources, implementing the mandate of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, “said Deputy Minister of Maritime and Island Policy.
He added that the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy has made a detailed imprint of the needs of our islands and in this endeavor we are moving along with local government, the island chambers and the islands. He also said that, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment, a first round of interventions was approved to tackle water scarcity in 14 island municipalities and pledged similar amounts of resources from the Ministry of the Environment, adding that today’s decision released about 3.5m euros.
