Stefanos Doukos, after a stunning match, took 2nd place in the big final of the European Championship in Philippopolis, winning the silver medal.
Stefanos Doukos confirmed his enormous stability in the elite of European rowing. Tokyo’s gold medalist has won the silver medal at the European Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, adding the fourth silver in European events in his collection for the past four years.
The Greek champion started his final skip, staying near Belarus Zalati, while Lithuanian Bieliauskas attempted early to impose his pace. After the first 500 meters, Duskos turned around, left Zalati behind and passed in front of the Lithuanian, showing ready to claim gold.
The battle peaked after the middle of the route. Bieliauskas retreated, while Zalati reacted, approached Dusko again and the two were left alone in the top of the top. At 1500 meters, Zalati took a lead and managed to make a difference of about 10 meters, while Duskos was also under pressure from the rising German Weber.
The Greek champion calmly held second place until the finish, finishing the race at 6: 44.90. Zalati was named Europe with a time of 6: 41.09, while the bronze medal was won by Romanos Chirouta with 6: 45.80.
This was the fourth consecutive silver medal for Stefanos Dusko in European championships, after those of 2022, 2023 and 2024, confirming that he remains one of Europe’s leading skippers.
