Part of the roof collapsed in the international airport her Majorcain Spain, causing panic to passengers.
Degrees and glasses fell from the roof to the Son Son Sant Joan Airport Luggage area in Mallorca early today (24.06.2025) in the afternoon.
This comes amid a very high number of passengers at the airport – with thousands of British holidaymakers flocking to Mallorca this summer.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident – with the vending machines in the arrivals room being hit the biggest blow than the impact.
However, there was a strong click that caused a “huge terror” in the arrivals room, according to the local news website Ultima Hora.
The area was excluded by security and airport staff who were forced to redirect passengers.
Shocking photos shared on social media show big glass fragments and dust on the floor.
According to Ultima Hora report, several people used automatic sales machines when the roof collapsed.
The AENA Spanish Airport Authority attributed the collapse to wreckage of construction work that fell on a glass roof near the entrance to the luggage compartment.
An Aena spokesman told the local press: “Airport officials are already analyzing what happened in order to take appropriate measures and determine the responsibilities if necessary.”
An English -speaking woman heard the world say, “My God”, as a cloud of dust was rising from the ground where part of the roof had fallen.
A local described Palma Airport as “Worst in Spain” in a social media post this evening.
Renovation work at the airport has been criticized by workers and passengers. In January, the fall of a panel and the weather led to the dust entrance to the terminal and complaints.
An airport worker told the local press at the time: “Neither workers nor passengers could breathe and many people were slipping because of dust on the ground.”
“Having to work in such conditions is a shame.”
Another told Mallorca’s Diario de Mallorca newspaper: “Passengers were forced to wear masks due to air pollution.”
