In the context of reducing CO2 emissions, the Jysk places photovoltaic panels on the roofs of its distribution centers.
Recently, photovoltaic panels were installed at JYSK’s three German distribution centers in Kammlach, Homberg and Zarrentin. Thus, six of our distribution centers now have photovoltaic panels on their roofs. But in both distribution centers under construction in Spain and the Netherlands, photovoltaic panels will be installed. Depending on the amount of solar radiation, photovoltaic panels can cover up to 30% of the total annual energy consumption of the distribution centers.
“All of our new distribution centers will be built so that photovoltaic panels can be installed on their roofs as our goal is to come from renewable energy sources as much energy as possible. Photovoltaic panels are a proven technology, but also a profitable investment, “says Morten Venborg Hansen, Projects Director Logistics in Jysk.
Part of climate goals
In October 2024, JYSK launched a Great Offer for Generations Sustainability Strategy, while approved by JYSK’s climate goals of the internationally recognized Science Based Targets initiative.
Among other things, JYSK is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the field 1 and 2 by 50.4% by 2032, with a base of 2022 and photovoltaic panels in distribution centers are one of the ways to achieve the goal. In two of JYSK’s oldest distribution centers in Uldum, Denmark and Nässjö, JYSK is considering the alternative to heat pumps and peripheral heating to consume renewable energy, as their roofs cannot support solar panels.
“We have already implemented accessible solutions, such as LED lights, lighting and heating controlled sensors to our distribution centers, and we will continue to explore and apply further initiatives that can reduce energy consumption and ensure that the energy we use comes from renewable energy.” All JYSK stores have a new lighting system that has reduced energy consumption for lighting by at least 25% compared to the past.
