Socrates Famellos initially pointed out that SYRIZA-PS recognizes and honors the history of refugee Hellenism and his contribution to our homeland:
“We support the initiatives of the bodies of refugee Hellenism (Pontians, Asia Minor and Thracians), as well as the rest of the Christian populations of the East who suffered genocide by the Ottoman and Turkish state (Armenians, Assyrians).
We support the promotion of the international recognition of the genocide within the framework of our country’s international initiatives and in all the international forums we are involved in. And of course based on international law and respect for human rights. And in this context, we are committed to taking new initiatives in Greece and Europe by expressing the universal demands of refugee Hellenism.
Our support is timeless and lasting and concerns every issue that concerns you, from preserving historical memory to your modern demands. Both as a government and as an official opposition, SYRIZA maintained constant communication with refugee bodies, promoted solutions to timeless issues and adopted many of their proposals, responding to their needs and demands. In this context, SYRIZA PS has been publicly deposited and is bound by the road map and the action plan to support Pontian Hellenism in April 2023, which we support and promote. “
Socrates Famellos supported the request for the establishment of a permanent and enduring party party of the House: “We express our support for your request for the establishment of the Commission, which in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry will chart and implement a specific plan of action for its international recognition.”
At the same time, he also referred to the problems that concern Pontian expatriates from the countries of the former Soviet Union, such as the major issue of mortgage and pensions:
“It is imperative for a definitive and fair solution both for the issue of mortgages granted by the Greek State guaranteed and the issue of pensions of uninsured elderly homogeneous. And we have supported these issues with our amendments to the House and we will do it again immediately. “
On the issue of the Museum of Refugee Hellenism in Thessaloniki (in the former camp of Pavlos Mela), the SYRIZA-PS President argued that “the exhibition of rich archival material in a confined space promoted by the Mitsotakis government is an insult to refugee Hellenism.”
