SYRIZA-PS President was meeting with Santorini bodies, Socrates at the party’s offices in Koumoundourou, before a scheduled visit to Brussels and a few weeks after the party’s on -site visit to the party on the island.
Socrates Famellos in his introductory position again expressed the full support of SYRIZA-PS on the demands of Santorini bodies and citizens, so that there is no effect on the seismic sequence.
He highlighted the initiatives of parliamentary control, which the party has already undertaken and stressed that the main objective of the meeting is to inform the island’s own bodies on how the situation is evolving and what additional subscription is needed to find Santorini their pace.
Characteristically stressed: “When I visited Santorini, the first issue was to stop the very much pressure on the seismic sequence in both the local economy and the environment. At the same time, we discussed together the need for specific measures to support Santorini and the neighboring islands: immediate and regular payment of the transport equivalent, suspension of declaration, communication support of the tourism product and Santorini, and the islands the image was affected,
Referring to the SYRIZA-PS parliamentary interventions, Socrates Famellos underlined:
“I would like to inform you that the SYRIZA-PSP parliamentary group has already made several interventions in Parliament on the issue of financial support for businesses and workers, which have been affected by earthquakes, the static adequacy and security of schools and for the students of the 3rd High School, who must have a high school AE. But we want to hear you, to be informed and to continue our interventions. There are, of course, many other issues related to local functions, the functioning of the government, the function of health, which must be on the agenda and provide solutions by the government. We learn that no answers, no solutions have been given. And this is now creating a new problem on the island, which has left the cameras of publicity, but has accumulated “open” issues that must resolve directly for the good of the island, local and national economy. “
The positions of the bodies came to the conclusion that no of the commitments – solutions promised by the government and the region had not been proceeded. Bodies identify a decrease in the next months of 40%, and it has become even more difficult to find staff who will staff the island’s businesses during this season. Even the meager compensation of a specific purpose for employees whose contracts are suspended of EUR 534 has not yet begun to be paid.
The ND government and its friendly regional authority seem to be possible in words, but weak in practice. And Santorini, as well as all the Greek islands, need the state support of the state and not from hollow promises.
