In an attempt to attract new talent and make the country a more sought-after destination for foreigners, Slovenia is set to launch a digital nomad visa in the last quarter of this year.
As explained, the Slovenian authorities are getting ready to roll out the digital nomad visa on November 21, 2025, but details on the matter are yet to be revealed, Schengen.News reports.
The applications for the digital nomad visa of Slovenia will be open to all non-EU/EEA citizens. Those who are granted Slovenia’s digital nomad visa will be permitted to reside in Slovenia for one year, Travel Tomorrow explains.
However, one of the main requirements to obtain the visa is that the applicants need to be employed by a foreign company, meaning that they need to work for non-Slovenian clients or employers.
The failure to meet this requirement may result in applicants’ visa refusal and future restrictions on entering the country.
In addition to being able to reside in Slovenia while working for clients outside the country, the beneficiaries of the Slovenian digital nomad visa will also be permitted to bring their family members along with them, under the condition that anyone brought along does not work in Slovenia.
Another condition for bringing family members along is that the beneficiaries of the Slovenian digital nomad visa need to prove that they have sufficient funds to look after their families, in addition to themselves. The income threshold is yet to be specified by the authorities.
Slovenia’s Digital Nomad Visa Cannot Be Renewed Back-to-Back
Foreign nationals who are interested in the digital nomad visa of Slovenia can apply for the document online or at a Slovenian consulate or embassy.
Once issued, the permit will be valid for a total of 12 months, but there is no possibility of a back-to-back renewal.
Digital nomads who want to stay in Slovenia on the basis of this permit for more than a year will need to spend at least six months outside the country and then reapply for the digital nomad visa.
By making such a move, Slovenia will become the latest EU nation to welcome digital nomads, attracting talent and encouraging long-term tourism.
The country offers an affordable cost of living compared to some other member states. Ljubljana has many co-working spaces with lively streets and vibrant nightlife for those who prefer a more dynamic lifestyle.
On the other hand, other cities like Celje, Maribor, Kranj, and Koper offer quieter alternatives and are better suited for families.
