The Minister of Foreign Affairs Russia, Sergei Lavrovsaid, in an interview released today Sunday (24.8.25) that a group of countries including United Nations Security Council members could guarantee its security Ukraine.
Reuters reported last week that Russia’s president Vladimir Putin demands that Ukraine surrender the entire Eastern Donbas District, to abandon the ambitions for NATO accession, to remain neutral and to keep the west of the country.
Lavrov told NBC News that Putin and US President Donald Trump discussed the issue of a security guarantee and that Putin had raised the issue in Istanbul’s fruitless talks in 2022.
In those conversations, Russia and Ukraine discussed Ukraine’s permanent neutrality in exchange for security guarantees by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council: Britain, China, France, Russia and USA and other countries, according to a copy of an agreement planned by Reuters in 2022.
Lavrov told the NBC that a group of countries including members of the UN Security Council could guarantee Ukraine’s security. This group could also include Germany and Turkey and other countries, according to the Russian Foreign Minister.

Lavrov also made it clear that Ukraine’s accession to NATO cannot be accepted by Russia, that Russia wants the protection of Russian -speaking in Ukraine and that there should be a territorial debate with Ukraine.
