The immediate intervention of the state, to reduce the cost of insurance companies to health Of the private beds, the president of the Association of Insurance Companies of Greece (UAE), Alexandros Sarrigeorgiou, requested the 25th Insurance & Reinsurance Meeting in Hydra.
“The state must recognize that there are serious cost factors behind insurance companies, and it is not possible for the industry to continue to suffer damage, incorporating a disproportionate burden,” the UAE president noted, demanding reforms that will contain the increasing expenditure.
Specifically, Mr Sarrigeorgiou proposed the adoption of international DIGNISIS-Related Groups for private clinics in order to create a viable system of costing services. “Health has become very expensive,” he said.
At the same time, it criticized the tax burden on citizens, who choose to insure their health or property, noting that VAT 15% in these services does not apply to any other European country.
Despite the improvements of the economic environment and the government’s substantial interventions over the last six years, the challenges remain, as he himself admitted. A typical example is the insurance gap in Greece, which remains four times the EU average. Although tax reliefs have contributed to the increase in insured residence (from 15%to 19%), this figure is significantly short of countries such as Spain, where the corresponding rate is 86%.
Referring to the implementation of the new framework for compulsory business insurance with a turnover of over 500,000 euros, which comes into force on June 1, Mr Sarrigeorgiou said they are in discussions with the insurance market and the state to create a model that will make the insurance of insurance problems.
“We are processing a solution so that all businesses can be insured in a model with state participation. We are very close to doing so, but we have to act faster, “the UAE president underlined.
