Russia: Ready for talks with Ukraine – “road to nowhere” Talks without Moscow’s participation says Lavrov

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov said today, Wednesday (20/8/2025), that the Russia He is ready to discuss the political aspects of an agreement with Ukraine.

Russia is ready to have talks, and whatever the negotiations are made, it is open to send a higher level delegation, added Sergei Lavrov. He reiterated Moscow’s position that any meeting of the leaders of Russia and Ukraine should be the culmination of these negotiations and should be carefully prepared.

He also said that efforts to resolve security issues related to Ukraine without Moscow’s participation are a “road to nowhere”.

“We cannot accept the fact that it has now been proposed to resolve security issues, collective security without the Russian Federation. This will not work, “Lavrov said.

“I am sure that the West and above all the United States realizes very well that discussing serious security issues without the Russian Federation is a utopia, it is a road to nowhere.”

The Russian Foreign Minister made these statements two days after the meeting held by US President Donald Trump with the Ukrainian president and European leaders discussing security guarantees for Ukraine, which would help end the war.
