Technical conversations between Russia and Ukraine may be hosted next week in VaticanFinland President Alexander Stubb said in an interview with Public Broadcasting Yle.
According to Finland’s president, representatives of the US and European countries are expected to participate in talks between Russia and Ukraine in the Vatican.
Alexander Stubb emphasized that such a meeting would be a “positive step” towards a broader involvement of the international community in efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
“It is very likely that next week, possibly in the Vatican, a technical meeting will be held with Ukrainians, Russians, Americans and Europeans,” the Finland president said.
Noting the growing role of European countries in the peace process, Stubb said that “we are entering a phase where Europe is involved – and that was what we were hoping for from the outset.”
On Monday, US President Donald Trump contacted several European leaders, including Stubb, to inform them of his talks with the strong Kremlin man Vladimir Putin, as well as the course of negotiations with the aim of stopping.
