The necessary supporting documents, in order to prove that there was no obligation to pay traffic feesthe owners are invited to submit by Friday, October 31 vehicles who received a notice from the Tax Office for unpaid 2020 road tax.
Thousands of vehicle owners have been “blacklisted” by the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE), as after sweeping intersections, they appear to have failed to pay their 2020 road tax, putting them at risk of fines double the value of the tax, as provided for in the legislation, according to ertnews.
This was followed by the sending of notices with the recommendation to give reasons by the last day of October, why the fees were not paid.
Those who claim that they were not obliged to pay road tax, should provide the necessary supporting documents in time, such as a certificate of immobility or destruction of the vehicle or non-payment obligation, in order to be exempted from the amounts that have been charged to them. Instead, those who ignore the notice will face fines of up to twice the value of the road charges. The “sad” ones will be sent by AADE between November 28 and December 5, 2025.
In particular, until Friday, taxpayers with pending tax payments for 2020 can submit, through the myCAR platform, a statement on the actual condition of their vehicle, accompanied by the corresponding supporting documents. In the application, it is stated whether the vehicle has been stationary, has been written off, stolen, exported abroad or is exempt from fees, while documents proving the non-debt are submitted.
Even after the deadline, owners can still submit their details through the My Claims app, but this will not stop the fee verification process. The Tax Services receive the information for each vehicle and proceed to correct the data in the Vehicle Information System, based on the documents submitted.
For example, if a vehicle is found to have been in circulation abroad for more than one year, then its image is corrected for all years (immobilized for the corresponding period of time). For cases where delivery to a hardware collector/loss is declared, and there is no appropriate supporting document other than a responsible declaration, the image of the vehicle is not corrected, however a relevant note is entered.
The Tax Services will make the relevant corrections until November 28, 2025 and certify the 2020 road tax from November 28 to December 5, 2025.
If the submitted supporting documents do not prove the non-obligation to pay traffic fees 2020, then the corresponding fees are included in the certification of traffic fees together with the fine.
Fees are posted in 2026
In the meantime, at the beginning of next week at the latest, the 2026 tolls will be posted on TAXIS, which are the same as last year and must be paid on time by December 31, 2025. In case of late payment of the tolls, there are fines that escalate according to the time of late payment of the tolls. The sooner after the deadline the repayment is made, the smaller will be the independent fine that will be borne by the offenders.
Specifically, from January 1, 2026, the fines will escalate as follows:
- 25% on the fee if it is paid within January
- 50% on the fee if paid in February, and
- 100% if paid from March 1st.
In any case, the fine cannot be less than 30 euros.
