OR Bulgaria and German Defense Company Rheinmetall are ready to create a big factoryfor the production of 155mm artillery guns and artillery missiles.
The gunpowder plant designed by the German company in Bulgaria will be the largest in Europe.
Rheinmetall is expected to sign over € 1 billion with Bulgaria, the German company said Tuesday.
Boyko Borisov, leader of Bulgaria’s ruling center -right Gerb party, said in a Facebook post on Monday that he met with Rheinmetall’s CEO, Armin Papperger at the company’s headquarters in Düsseldorf.
The agreements are expected to be finalized within the next three weeks.
“The gunpowder plant will be as large as two German factories, the largest in Europe,” Borisov said
“We are excited about the confidence that Bulgaria has shown us and will be a reliable and effective partner for the country,” Rheinmetall said. “We will provide more details as soon as the contracts are signed,” the company added.
The planned 155mm missile factory, built at the Vazovski Mashinostroiteleni Zavodi (VMZ) premises, will produce about 100,000 ammunition per year.
