In a world full of wars, poverty, displaced, oppressed and forgotten, the message of Resurrection Looks like – and is – hopelessly timely. Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Congo, Yemen, the horror next to us and away from us, show that the Resurrection is not just a matter of faith. It is a cry of consciousness.
Christ, if we look at it beyond the religious context, was the most radical politician in history. He did not hold a scepter, he did not wear a crown, he had no power mechanisms. And yet, he talked about the poor, the unjust, the excluded. He overthrew hierarchies and situations. Resisted the power and hypocrisy of wealth and indifference.
The Resurrection, then, is not just a victory over death. Is a message Resistor which without sacrifice does not work. It is an act of resistance to hatred, injustice, exploitation and every power that manages fear. It is the political reason of “love each other” in times when love is considered weakness and solidarity … “luxury”. In abstentions that hope is considered populism and dies without resurrection.
Leaders today have to listen to this message. Not to blame it. To stand with courage against social disintegration, injustice, cynicism. To take political initiatives that serve many, not the interests of the few.
And we, as citizens, regardless of faith, let us bring the word “man” to the center of our lives. Whether we believe in Christ, Buddha, Mohammed or anyone, the Resurrection can be reminded that only with love, solidarity and justice there is hope.
And in a world that dies every day of inhumanity, this is the most political message of all.
