Millions of people in parts of Wales and south-west England have been told to stay at home as Storm Darragh packs winds with gusts of up to 146km per hour.
According to the BBC, more than 40,000 households have been left without power, with gale-force winds uprooting trees and causing extensive damage to parked cars.
On Friday afternoon (06.12.2024), the cabinet issued an emergency notice to 3 million people in the areas “covered” by the Met Office’s rare red warning.
The emergency alert system sent a message to every compatible mobile phone in the areas expected to be affected, containing information about the red alert and instructions on how to stay safe until Saturday.

“Strong winds can cause debris, downed trees and large waves around coastal areas, which can be life-threatening.
Stay indoors if you can. It is unsafe to drive under these conditions,” the message reads.
