Real Madrid – Marseille: High Risk The Champions League match according to the Spanish Interior Ministry

The Champions League clash between Real Madrid and Marseillescheduled for next Tuesday (16.09.2025), was described as “high risk” by the Spanish interior ministry for security reasons.

Speaking to the French News Agency (AFP), a source from the Spanish ministry clarified that this particular designation for Real Madrid – Marseille implies the strengthening of security measures, but without any serious consequences for Marseille fans.

Thousands of fans of the French team are expected in Madrid for this particularly important match, which marks Marseille’s return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2022-23 season.

The Spanish authorities did not reveal the exact reasons for the decision to describe the struggle as “high risk”.

It is recalled that in 2008, Marseille Santos Mirasiera fan had been sentenced to three years and six months in prison for his involvement in incidents with police forces on the sidelines of the Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid.

He was later released with a guarantee and served his sentence in France, gaining a symbolic role in the European movement of organized followers (Ultras).
