Question of ND MPs for preference crosses on ballots

MPs in the New Democracy asked the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Theodoros Livanos, about the number of preference crosses on the ballots.

In their question, they said that in the recent European elections of June 2024, in addition to the letter vote, the innovation of the number of preference crosses on the letter ballot was also implemented. They pointed out that the issue of counting crosses has previously caused many controversy and judicial appeals. Citing recent articles by Andreas Drymiotis in “Sunday’s Kathimerini” (05.01.2025), MPs emphasized the view that the practice of adding crosses by party representatives during the sorting of the election of the MPs and must be elected.

The MPs have expressed praise to the ministry’s leadership for what he did, considering it reasonable to complete the step of modernization and transparency by expanding this regulation to both national, as well as to self -governing (municipal and regional) elections.

In this context, they asked the Minister if there was intention, planning and timetable for expanding this regulation, that is, if he intends to legislate in favor of the indication of the number of crosses of preference in each ballot paper, whether it is letter or live.

The question was signed by MPs Dimitris Keridis, Theodoros Karaoglou, Makarios Lazaridis, Dimitris Markopoulos, Stylianos Petsas, George Kotsos, Sofia Voultepsi and Pericles Mandas.
