For the possibility of meeting the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenskispoke today (07.08.2025) the Vladimir Putin during statements he made after talking with the president of the United Arab Emirates in the Kremlin.
Vladimir Putin said characteristically: “I have already said many times that I have nothing against a meeting with Zelenski, it is likely” but he said that some conditions must be created first, which are not fulfilled right now, and we are far from being created.
It is noted that Zelenski has asked Putin several times to carry out direct negotiations, something that the Russian leader and the Kremlin have categorically rejected. After all, Wed Putin and Zelenski is one of the terms Trump has set on his Russian counterpart to hold the conversations between them.
Putin then referred to the possibility of meeting the US president, saying that the United Arab Emirates is a suitable location to hold the Russian -US summit.
The selection of the Emirates is by no means accidental, as the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court that has been issued by the Russian president from 2023 leaves no room for the area of Trump and Putin.
In particular, the 123 Contracting Member States of the International Criminal Court are obliged to arrest Vladimir Putin and transfer him to The Hague if he enters their territory.
Exceptions are countries such as the US, Russia, China, Israel and India. Also, one option is Saudi Arabia, which has aspirations to be an important diplomatic factor after hosting the Russian leader in March 2025, when he met with the country’s successor’s successor, Mohammed bin Salman, who liked him by the US.
On the other hand, Turkey has also played a negotiator role between Ukraine and Russia since the start of the Russian invasion after hosting several rounds of negotiations on both sides. However, the United Arab Emirates also maintains friendly relations with both countries and is, as Putin stressed, a suitable place for bilateral talks.
