Without doctor the little girl stayed once more Pserimosas the doctor who was on the island left. In fact, there is a three-month-old baby on the island. The second baby on the island, who turned one a few days ago, was taken by his mother and left, unable to bear these conditions.
As the child’s mother, Maria Kalomirou, who left Pserimos, says, the absence of a doctor “is the reason I have left, I can’t not know what’s happening to me, at the first problem we have to take the boat and run in panic . Not being able to sleep from worry. I do not accept to be here and not have a doctor, I am afraid, my soul trembles every night, do not raise tithes, do not knock. Who will take care of us?”
“What development of the island, who want to be on top of the world? They are indulgently unacceptable. What to do in the summer when there is a ferry every day?“, he adds, describing the harsh, unimaginable for most, reality that the country’s refugees have to face. “There is no pharmacy, I carry Panagia’s eyes, cortisones, antihistamines“, he explains.
These conditions have also forced the father of the child to constantly go back and forth between Pserimos and Kalymnos and lead to the closing of his restaurant on the uninhabited island. “With these and with those we were forced and in the winter we close Pserimos”, says Mrs. Good luck.
In fact, he mentioned that now another baby, a little girl, just three months old, arrived on the island today. “It’s a sin, others don’t have the financial ability to leave, if the bad happens… good night,” he says characteristically.

The residents are trying to find solutions on their own and to be seen by the State. The Pserimos Citizens Association has been formed on the island, which is looking for solutions, so that to send a doctor to the island again, either from the Kalymnos hospital or from the Armed Forces.
“The doctor left and no one was informed”, as a member of the Association’s Board of Directors stated, underlining that it is the acrites who are looking for solutions, instead of the State taking care of it.
Pserimos, a few nautical miles from Imia and the Turkish coast, is the latest typical example of what the Akrites have to endure in the Aegean, insisting on living on its smaller islands.
In the middle of January 2022, a hoplite doctor was placed in the desert Polydynamos Regional Clinic in an action promoted by the Region of South Aegean and the District of Kalymnos. The hoplite, however, did not do “lifetime service” and then left the island, after 2-3 months.
The following year, in mid-January 2023, a military doctor was appointed for one month, followed, one month later, by the arrival of a permanent doctor for a one-year term, which was completed and left.
In 2024 the Armed Forces initially sent a hoplite medic in the spring and another in the summer, but he left a few weeks ago.
