In a full -length interview In Meeting Point with Olga Tremythe former President of the Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, He referred to a series of burning national and international issues. Starting with the proper application of the Ministers’ Liability Act, he underlined the need for a comprehensive and complete preliminary examination by the Special Parliamentary Committee, warning the risk of canceling the procedure by the Judicial Council in the event of an incomplete examination.
Concerning Turkey’s possible involvement in European defense, Mr Pavlopoulos described it as unthinkable and offensive to the EU, questioning Turkey’s credibility as a democratic country. He stressed that Greece has every right to invoke the EU’s contribution to its national issues, as they also concern the EU.
Referring to developments in Turkey, the former president expressed his concern about the absence of real democracy in the country, especially after 2017 and the imposition of the Presidential System by Erdogan. He called on the West and the EU not to retreat such phenomena, and described the cancellation of the Greek Prime Minister’s visit to Turkey.
Regarding the role of justice, Mr Pavlopoulos stressed the debt of its officials to decide unacceptable and fairly crisis, and also referred to Donald Trump’s electoral victory in the US, referring to the geopolitical changes it would make.
Finally, with regard to national issues for Greece and Cyprus, he pointed out the need to re -establish with the US, Russia and China, the claim of a planetary role for the EU, and the country’s shielding against the Turkish threat.
