Professor Sotiris Serbos in the Prime Minister’s staff for foreign policy matters

The associate professor of the Democritus University of Thrace, Sotiris Serbostakes over as advisor to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on foreign policy issues.

Who is Sotiris Serbos?

Dr. Sotirios K. Serbos serves as a permanent Assistant Professor of International Politics at the Democritus University of Thrace. He was born in Thessaloniki in 1976. A distinguished scholar of “Anatolia” College, he studied Political Science with an emphasis on International Relations at the University of Macedonia (BA) and at the London School of Economics and Political Science (MSc). Distinguished Scholar of the State Scholarship Foundation.

He prepared his doctoral thesis at the Greek Academy of Sciences, with a research field of EU-Turkey relations.

He is the author of the book “Turkey and the EU: The Role of Domestic Politics and the International Factor in Turkey’s European Orientation”.

He has worked as a special consultant/expert at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, National Defense, Macedonia – Thrace and at the N.A. Research Center. of Europe at the University of Sheffield. Additional experience in issues of institutional interventions and organizational restructuring of governmental strategic planning bodies. He has taught Public Administration & Politics at the Hellenic Open University and International Relations at the American College of Thessaloniki. He is a policy advisor to the Gerson Lehrman Group’s Policy & Economics Council.

In 2012 he was selected as a “SUSI scholar” at the American Policy Institute
and Political Thought (USA). In the period 2014-2015, he worked as a Fulbright Foundation academic scholar in the field of EU-US relations and the debt crisis in the Eurozone (The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University).

His publications focus on the fields of Euro-Atlantic relations,
American and Turkish foreign policy. It interferes with the public
dialogue through print and electronic media. He is married and
father of a boy. He speaks English and German.
