PPC: The construction of Western Macedonia’s District Heating Needs proceeds

Intense rates are proceeding with the construction of the high performance electricity and heat cogeneration unit (SITHEA) from the group PPCwith the aim of meeting the heating needs in Western Macedonia. The project is being built within the former Kardia Plot and is a completely investment by the PPC Group of approximately € 80 million.

Specifically, PPC’s construction work began after the prerequisite actions were implemented by the other parties and so far a significant portion of the required civil engineer projects have been completed, the delivery of the main electromechanical equipment has already begun at the construction site and in a short period of time. The SITHEA project includes the installation of 17 internal combustion engines with natural gas fuel, which can also operate with a mixture of gas and hydrogen without affecting their degree of performance. The unit is expected to be completed in 2026 and will fully meet the requirements for its designation as a “fully co -productive” under the relevant legislation, ensuring energy savings of over 10%, as well as a total of 75%yield.

The SITHEA Unit is part of the commitments that the PPC Group has implemented, signed by the Memorandum of Understanding and Strategic Cooperation (MOU) with the Coordinating Committee of a fair development plan, the Region of D. Macedonia, and the Municipalities of Kozani, and the Municipalities of Kozani.

It is a demanding project with particularly technical characteristics, designed by the PPC Group, in collaboration with the Memorandums involved, and will ensure the smooth supply of thermal energy in the interconnected system of district heating of D. Macedonia, taking into account the system. At the same time, the project was designed to ensure the lowest cost of thermal energy production against any alternative technology or investment, contributing substantially to the viability of Municipal Heating Enterprises.

The SITHEA unit is part of a wider plan to build new thermal energy production that is projected to develop in the former KARDIA ASA and Ptolemais Ptolemais 5.
