The works of renewable energy (RES) in Western Macedonia, whose core are the areas around the Ptolemais, heart, Agios Dimitrios and Amyntaio.
Overall, with their completion, the area’s photovoltaic clusters, the largest in Europe, will produce almost 3,150 GWh electricity – a quantity corresponding to more than 6% of the annual energy consumption throughout mainland Greece.
The Western Macedonia RES projects

Significant investments in storage systems

These two stations, totaling 98 MW and 196 MWh capacity, as well as their concomitant projects, are expected to be completed gradually and connected to the electricity system next time.
PPC has already announced that it will invest in the area around € 940 million for 860 MW energy storage projects. Overall, these projects will create over 1,300 jobs during construction and hundreds during operation.
Energy storage projects stand out the two pumping projects, the “natural batteries” using two lakes in an elevation difference between them. This is the project in the heart mine, with a capacity of 320 MW for 8 hours and the project in the South Field mine with a capacity of 240 MW for 12 hours.
