PPC and Hydropower Sustainability Alliance to strengthen sustainability practices in hydroelectric production

A new collaboration with Hydropower Sustainability Alliance (HSA), inaugurated by PPCwith the aim of integrating optimal international practices throughout the hydroelectric portfolio, as well as accelerating the achievement of targets viability of the group.

This cooperation is an important step in the overall sustainability strategy of the PPC Group to lead the energy transition to Greece and the wider region, with an emphasis on environmental, society and corporate governance (ESG) performance. In the context of its efforts to accelerate the full release of the energy mix, the PPC Group is proceeding with the ambitious plans for withdrawal of lignite units, while utilizing former lignite mines to develop important projects, including PSH projects.

In May 2025, as part of the official launch of the two companies’ cooperation, HSA executives visited the PPC Group Administrative Team in Athens. The visit also included “Certified User” training for 32 employees of the Group, who were equipped with the necessary tools to evaluate and improve the ESG performance of existing and under the development of hydroelectric and pumping projects of PPC, using Hydropower Sustainability Standard.

A series of actions are planned for the rest of the year, including self-assessment of selected projects and training of internal evaluators. In the context of the cooperation, the official evaluation of a PPC Group’s hydroelectric project is also foreseen within the year, with the aim of certifying it under the HSS standard.
