From April to July, the tournament traveled this year to Agia Paraskevi, Aegina, Elefsina, Kastoria, Santorini and Sparta, gathering a multitude of entries and enthusiastic audiences. In 387 matches, 275 teams competed in all categories, U14 Men, U16 Men, U18 Men, +18 Men, +18 Women, proving that 3 × 3 is an authentic basketball experience for everyone.
3 × 3: From the streets of the Olympics
The 3 × 3 is the most widespread group “street sport” in the world and is played with two opposing teams of three players, in a basketball, in half. The winner is the team that precedes when a game of a minute is completed or who first reaches 21 points.
Worldwide, 3 × 3 was played in stadiums and gyms around the world. Since the 1990s, it has been started, mainly from the US, 3 × 3 basketball tournaments and the standardization of its rules. In 2010 he first appeared in international competitions at the Youth Olympics in Singapore.
Today FIBA is organizing an annual 3 × 3 World Tour, World and Continental Cups. The Olympic sport took place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where the gold medal in men won Latvia while the US was won.
Greece has national teams of 3 × 3 men, women, U23 and U21. The 3 × 3 is constantly rising, as can be seen from the response of athletes, clubs, the wider athletic public, as well as from the rise of our country and our national teams to the FIBA classification. This is also certified by the recent qualification of the U23 Women’s Team in the 3 × 3 World Cup.
PPC consistently supports the development of 3 × 3 in Greece, contributing decisively to the extroversion of the sport and its dissemination throughout the country. Through its collaboration with the Hellenic Basketball Federation, it reinforces initiatives that promote sports, the integration of the younger generation into sports and the contact of local communities with the modern, dynamic face of basketball.
Indicative of the dynamics that Greece acquires at 3 × 3 is the withdrawal of the FIBA 3 × 3 Europe Cup 2027 from Athens. From September 16th to September 19th, Syntagma Square will host Europe’s leading national teams into a backdrop of the Acropolis, turning the historic center of the capital into a meeting point of basketball friends.
