Storm Claudia in Portugal has brought heavy rains that have caused deadly flooding. An elderly couple died.

The elderly couple lived in Setúbal, an area south of Lisbon, and were trapped in their flooded home overnight.

Although the exact circumstances of the accident remain under investigation, Portuguese media reports that the couple were unable to move in time as the water level rose too quickly inside the house.

Due to the bad weather, the roads turned into raging rivers, while many areas are without electricity. Setúbal is among the areas hardest hit by storm Claudia, which brought strong winds and torrential rain, hitting both mainland Portugal and the island of Madeira.
