New reactions from the property owners and the POMIDAgives birth to the bill of the Ministry of Tourism which has been put into consultation and which contains provisions related to short term rentalsuch as compulsory insurance, taking security measures and increasing the resilience fee.
In a statement, POMIDA states that the proposed provisions are a product of the public claim on the part of the hotel groups, following the recent multiple tax raid against property owners who have their properties available for short-term rental, and their indirect coercion to withdraw from it .
At the same time, POMIDA underlines that the accumulation of new tax measures and specifications leads to an increase in the cost of accommodation in short-term rental accommodation, which will lead fatally to a decrease in tax revenues, but also to the financial “strangulation” of those who deal with it, with resulting in the reduction of the country’s tourism revenues.
POMIDA points out that without disagreeing with the liability insurance, or with the other self-evident security measures, but asks to take into account the colossal failure of the measures against short-term rentals in Barcelona, which would supposedly solve the housing problem in the city , which never happened because – as in Greece – this was not the cause of the housing problems.
The owners, thus, request an end to the “silent persecution” of the short-term rental by reviewing from the beginning both this provision and the whole network of these successive charges.
