The Minister of National Economy and Finance spoke in the central news release of ANT1 and Nikos Chatzinikolaou Kyriakos Pierrakakisin response to the government’s criticism from the opposition on the package of measures presented by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the 89th Thessaloniki International Exhibition.
Mr Pierrakakis, following the specialization of the measures made by the financial staff today, stressed to ANT1 that the new measures are focusing on the major issue of birth. “Demographic is our national issue,” he said.
Regarding the criticism that there was no specific provision for accuracy, the minister replied that the government’s choice was to head for tax cuts that would benefit families directly. “Greece is a country that still has a big debt. We do not intend, nor as a generation, to pass the “account” to the next. We choose to make the highest tax reduction in the transition. We choose to go directly through income tax on three -year -olds, children, families with children, young people, rather than to mediate, because it reaches 19%, according to the Bank of Greece, to the consumer, “he said.

To reduce VAT on the islands, he explained that this is possible due to a relevant European directive. “Tax policy is ‘choices’. We want to strengthen the businesses belonging to locals. They are locals, they live on the border and we have to support them above. I wish anyone could do it all. The politicians who came to this country and asked to do it all will not say that they did nothing, I will say they did harm, “he said.
Responding to the criticism that the TIF did not include measures for small and medium -sized enterprises and farmers, Mr Pierrakakis noted: “Income taxation also concerns farmers, (if) for all Greeks. Everyone will see themselves in the measures. For businesses we have done a lot, from tax reduction from 28% to 22%, dividend tax from 15% to 5%. I think that even the toughest judge of this government will admit that here (in the TIF package) we had a compact narrative, a central logic in these measures, because we recognize that there is a national problem. Tax reform does not heal it, but recognizes it. It was a first step we had to take. “
