Meeting with US Finance Minister Scott Bessed and Deputy Minister of Finance Mike Follander had the Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakisas part of the visit he performs at Washington on the occasion of the Spring Synod of the International Monetary Fund.
Among the issues discussed were the attraction of US investments in new sectors in Greece, the broader Athens-Washington economic cooperation, and artificial intelligence.
The meeting confirms the American interest in the prospects of the Greek economy, which was at the heart of the IMF’s processes as one of the few positive examples in a period of prolonged uncertainty.
The meeting took place despite the US minister’s burdensome schedule, as US trade partners are rushing to take advantage of the window of the temporary suspension of duties in order to negotiate new trade agreements.
Greece is reportedly at this stage expecting to see how these talks will evolve at European level and then consider the possibilities available to impose an exceptions on Greek products exported to the US.
The meeting of Kyriakos Pierrakakis at the US Treasury was held in the wake of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ statements on duties at Breitbart News, which have received a positive response to Washington, as they are considered to be promoting a constructive stance within the EU.
