The Minister of National Economy and Finance is in the United States Kyriakos Pierrakakisin order to participate in the work of the Annual Council of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington.
At the top of the agenda, IMF Director General Kristalina Georgieva has set the thematic “opportunities in a period of change”, reflecting the great challenges and transformations of the world economy. During his stay in Washington, Kyriakos Pierrakakis will participate in the plenary of the IMF Council of Commanders, while being a keynote speaker in a public debate in the New Economy Forum, organized by the IMF on “Strategies for the Future: Digitization of Economy”.
The Minister of Finance will also be one of the main speakers at the working dinner of the European Ministers of Finance with IMF Director General Ms. Georgieva, where Europe’s strategic role in the changing polymer system will be discussed. In addition, he will participate in the 14th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Ministers of Finance on the climate action, with the aim of contributing to economic policy to enhance the climate crisis.
On the sidelines of the IMF’s work, Mr Pierrakakis will have bilateral meetings with senior executives of the Fund, head of banking and investment groups, foreign officials and counterparts. It will also participate in events of institutional actors on international economic developments and the course of the Greek economy.
The Minister’s central message in his positions and contacts will be that in a period of international uncertainty and liquidity, the Greek economy remains durable, with steady upward performance. Greece is an attractive investment destination and pillar of political, fiscal and regional stability.
