The above benefit will come from:
- Increases in Armed Forces and Security Forces, costs 240m euros
- The increase in the minimum wage which in turn leads to an increase in all civil servants’ salaries, costing EUR 360 million.
- Reduction of tax rates for civil servants, costing EUR 400 million
“The cost from the implementation of the 13th salary would be 1.35 billion euros and we give 1 billion euros,” said Pierrakakis. “When we say we reduce direct taxes, this is about civil servants, private employees, freelancers, retirees, farmers. It concerns the whole of the society from which you remove weights, ”he added.
Mr Pierrakakis made it clear that “the political choice of the government is to support available income”. He spoke of “the biggest reduction of taxes ever made”. “We did a reform: we have changed the way the tax system operates in Greece and this will apply from New Year’s Eve,” the minister added.
